Social Media

Social media safety

Regular conversations help your child know they can come to you when something online feels wrong.

Everyday habits

Ask your child to show you an app they use. Together, check who can contact them and see their posts. Agree on times to put phones away for conversation, rest, and sleep. Keep asking what they enjoy online—and what makes them uncomfortable.

If cyberbullying happens

Listen without blaming your child. Save screenshots, and don’t share or respond to hurtful posts. Report the content in the app. Contact the school when students or school life are involved.

Report a safety concern

Students and adults can report concerns anonymously, including bullying, through CCS Say Something.

The 24/7 hotline number is 1-844-572-9669.

AI @ Home

AI can help with learning, ideas, and everyday tasks. You do not need to be an expert to help your child use it wisely. Start with a conversation and explore together. Below, we have resources to help set boundaries and keep students safe. We also have some help to learn and create together.

Safety and healthy boundaries

  • Protect privacy. Keep passwords, addresses, school details, photos, and private family information out of AI chats.

  • Check the answers. AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Compare important information with reliable sources.

  • Keep people close. A chatbot may sound caring, but it cannot replace a trusted person. Encourage your child to bring worries to you, a counselor, or another trusted adult.

  • Set expectations together. Review age requirements and privacy settings. Make time for sleep, friends, and activities away from screens.

Learn and create together

  • Start with something familiar. Ask AI about a hobby or topic your child knows, then check the response together.

  • Use it to practice. Ask for hints, explanations, or practice questions. Have your child explain what they learned in their own words.

  • Build on an idea. Brainstorm a story, project, or family activity, then make your own choices.

  • Follow the teacher’s directions. Check what AI use is allowed before using it for schoolwork.
