Image of the National Speech & Debate Association LogoThanks to a group of very dedicated students whose talent, positivity, and determination to succeed, the Douglas Byrd High School Forensics Team has emerged stronger than ever this school year.  The Forensics Team started a beat poetry/rap battle club.  Students are required to compose an original piece and present it from memory after weeks of preparation with enthusiasm and skill.  This would help students reading skills as well as analyzing figurative language.

The Eagle Regiment performed in class 1A at the Overhills High School Jaguar Classic….In the Rain!  Byrd brought home 1st place awards in every single category, topping our 1A Classification opponents from Triton, Lakewood, South Johnston, and Harnett Central.  Unlike last year when our band went undefeated throughout the season, this year’s group is very young and inexperienced.  They have had to work twice as hard to achieve similar results.  This was a great start to our competitive season and we hope to continue refining and reworking our product.  Thank you for your support of our band members as we maintain our standard of excellence throughout this rebuilding process.
