Paid Summer Internship Opportunity

Cumberland County Public Library has been given a grant through the Public Library Association, a division of the American Library Association, to employ a paid intern for this summer. This position will work one-on-one with a mentor to develop a connected learning project that will focus on providing access to library services for under-served youth and encourage interest in library services as a future career. The selected candidate must:
· be a high school junior, senior, or college freshman
· have a valid work permit if under 18 years of age
· be available to work June 24 – September 13, 2019 (work hours may vary) and
· will be required to participate in a 3 day, expenses paid, kick-off event in Chicago, IL – June 13-15 and a wrap-up event in Washington, DC September 20-22.

Summer Jobs imageAlcohol Law Enforcement Paid Position for the Summer

Below is a great opportunity for teens to make some extra summer spending money, as well as contribute to prevention efforts within the community!  ALE – Alcohol Law Enforcement – is looking for teens between 16 ½ and 17 ½ years of age, to assist with compliance checks of tobacco retailers. This is to insure tobacco retailers are checking for ID before selling tobacco products, and not selling to minors. They are looking for teens in Cumberland, Robeson, Hoke, and Lee Counties to cover a 9 county district – the ALE agents are located in Fayetteville.

What the teens will be doing:
– Assist ALE conduct tobacco retailer compliance checks
o The teen will attempt to purchase a tobacco product at a tobacco retail store – ALE will supply all funds needed
o The teen will be with 2 ALE agents – one of the agents will ALWAYS be observing the teen
o ALE will transport the teen
– Working hours will depend on the number of stores ALE receives per month, but will be either after school or on Saturdays – no later than 8:00 or 9:00 pm Monday – Thursday, and up to 8-10 hours on Saturdays.
– The pay is $10 per hour

Requirements for the teens:
– DMV ID or Driver’s License
– Not involved in any criminal proceedings, and no pending charges
– Calm demeanor – acts natural when making the purchase
– Gets in and out of vehicles easily, and can be on their feet for long periods of time
– Pass an age verification to ensure they look like they are at least 18, but not too much over
– 16 ½ – 17 ½ years old

*The ALE agents will talk with the teen’s parents/caregiver, and explain all of the details. If you have or know of any teens who would like to participate, let me know ASAP, ALE would like to begin the age verification process by April if possible.

Interested in working this summer?  ICON Flyer 2019  Apply for an ICON Internship (Innovative Career Opportunities Now).   This is a paid internship for 16-24-year-olds.   You may apply online at 2019 ICON Application

CCS annual Innovative Career Opportunities Now (ICON) summer internship program!  The flyer and link to the application are attached. The internship program runs June 3–July 12, 2019 and is open to Cumberland County residents ages 16-24.  Students will work 32 hours per week for six weeks at a rate of $8.00 per hour.  There are mandatory events participants must attend to include a preparatory workshop to build soft skills and prepare for interviews with the business partners providing the internships. Internships are not guaranteed. Students must compete!
