Beginning with the Class of 2019, Cumberland Community Foundation will select Robert H. Short Scholars who will receive awards as described in the attached document. The attached document contains the eligibility requirements, priorities for selection and the program timeline. It is also available on the website link.

It is a four-year, last-dollar-in, renewable scholarship for up to $15,000 for those attending a public university and up to $25,000 for those attending a private, nonprofit college or university.  There will be two information sessions in case students have questions:
· November 6, 2018 3:30 – 4:30
· November 15, 2018 3:30 – 4:30

Matching – Once you fill out your student profile, you are automatically matched with scholarships you are most eligible for.

Image of a boy holding a pencil.Information for Duke Summer Session for High School Students’ 2019 programs is now available! Choose from three trans-formative programs next summer:
Summer College – A four-week, credit-bearing program for students currently in 10th – 12th grade in which they take undergraduate-level courses.
Summer Academy – A three-week program for students currently in 9th – 12th grade in which they take a certificate course.
Accelerated STEM Academy – A one-week, STEM-based program for students currently in 9th – 12th grade that consists of a variety of hands-on labs, tours of Duke’s research facilities, faculty lectures, and workshops.  Click on the attached links for more information.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Fort Bragg Area Alumnae Scholarship
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an organization committed to public service. The Fort Bragg Area Alumnae Chapter is continuing that commitment. One of our objectives is to raise awareness regarding the importance of higher education in our local communities. Therefore, we are proud to offer our scholarship to eligible high school seniors. Scholarship awards are based on community service, extracurricular activities and essay responses.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Graduating senior from a high school in Cumberland or Harnett Counties planning to attend either a 2 or 4 year accredited university/college fall 2019.
• 3.0 minimum GPA (unweighted) on a 4.0 scale at the time of submission.
• Military ID holder OR resident of either Spring Lake or Hope Mills (military status and address subject to verification by the school).

Image of a boy holding a pencil.Health Careers Day on the Hill welcomes over 200 high school students who are interested in the health professions to exposure of various health pathways. Health Careers Day on the Hill Partners include all of UNC’s Health Science Schools, NCCU Bio Manufacturing Research Institute and Technology, UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. This semester, the event will be hosted on Saturday November 10, 2018 in the UNC School of Medicine from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Interactive presentations during breakout sessions are what gets the students eager about what it is like to be within their career interest. Also, a student life showcase featuring UNC talent helps students get thrilled on what life is like outside of the classroom. Lunch will also be provided for this event. It is time for ASVAB Testing. Attention 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students! ASVAB at DBHS will be rescheduled.  **The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. **Local U.S. military recruiters administer the ASVAB at Douglas Byrd High School free of charge to any interested student. There is no military commitment necessary to participate in the ASVAB testing.

The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is the oldest and most prestigious scholarship offered in the United States. To be nominated for this scholarship you must have a great GPA, outstanding moral character, physical vigor and demonstrate leadership. If this is you, see Ms. Matthews in Student Services ASAP.

 

Image of a boy holding a pencil.Colonial Dames of America in N.C. has a scholarship for seniors about North Carolina in the Revolutionary War. If the student wins at the state level they will be awarded $3,000.00 and the runner-up will receive $1,000 dollars. to be used at any North Carolina college or university.  See the attachments for a list of requirements as well as an application form. There is also a link to the application (Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship) if you prefer to submit it online.
