There are four different host universities that students can go to participate in this program – East Carolina University, North Carolina Central University, Appalachian State University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  It is completely cost-free and includes housing for the summer as well as meals. It gives students a great perspective on what it is like to live on a college campus, as well as prepares them for the upcoming school year.  The application opens today, October 15th Application Process

$25,000 National Scholarship for NC (2 available) and the $10,000 State Scholarships (10-12 available) through the Horatio Alger Association.

Deadline is October 25th.

No matter what school the student is attending, each campus will have financial aid administrators on hand to answer any questions that families have. FAFSA Flyer

The Countywide College Fair will be Tuesday, October 2nd 4:00-7:00 pm at the Crown Expo Center. There will be admission representatives from over 60 colleges and universities present as well as seminars for financial planning/aid. See the attached flyer for a list of schools who will be in attendance. We hope to see you there!

It is time for ASVAB Testing. Attention 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students! ASVAB at DBHS will be rescheduled.  **The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. **Local U.S. military recruiters administer the ASVAB at Douglas Byrd High School free of charge to any interested student. There is no military commitment necessary to participate in the ASVAB testing.

Event Timing: October 30, 2018
Event Address: Jack Britt HS – 7403 Rockfish Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28306
1. Must be a student of CCS
2. Must have a theme of Kindness
3. No inappropriate language or innuendo.
4. All submissions are to be on a 11X14 frame size
5. Submissions and Selections will go as follows:
– Participants will register through this link.
– Those participating will submit their final product to their school’s art teacher by October 4th.
– Each school’s art teacher will determine the top two submissions and will submit them to the Anti-Bullying Task Force
(ABTF) by October 18, 2018.
– The ABTF committee will determine three finalists from each school level to compete in the final art show by October 25,
2018 and will notify those selected.
– Three winners will be chosen on November 1st by a panel of community judges and awarded Ribbons and other prizes. Click this Registration link:

The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is the oldest and most prestigious scholarship offered in the United States. To be nominated for this scholarship you must have a great GPA, outstanding moral character, physical vigor and demonstrate leadership. If this is you, see Ms. Matthews in Student Services ASAP.

The College Fair *** This event has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 3, 2018*** Calling all 10th – 12th graders! You are invited to a FREE College Fair. The event will be held at the Spring Lake Recreation Center located at 245 Ruth Street, Spring Lake on Saturday, September 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The College Fair is being hosted by the Community Outreach Resource Network (C.O.R.N.). Students will be able to get information on a wide variety of colleges throughout the United States. Information on more than 125 colleges will be available. There will be college swag giveaways, raffle, snacks, etc…


Image of a boy holding a pencil.Colonial Dames of America in N.C. has a scholarship for seniors about North Carolina in the Revolutionary War. If the student wins at the state level they will be awarded $3,000.00 and the runner-up will receive $1,000 dollars. to be used at any North Carolina college or university.  See the attachments for a list of requirements as well as an application form. There is also a link to the application (Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship) if you prefer to submit it online.
